Visit the workshop of a batik manufacturer to learn about the artisan tradition of making designs on fabric with candle wax. You will visit the workshop of the late Mrs. Ena De Silva. Ena was a pioneering textile artisan who was known for her vibrant batik masterpieces, including the banners that adorn Sri Lanka’s Parliament. Her private estate is now a woman’s corporate that continues to produce modern fabrics inspired by traditional Sri Lankan designs.
Also known as Matale Heritage Centre, Ena De Silva’s private estate is located near the Aluvihara Cave Temple, off the Dambulla to Kandy highway. The center is usually open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays.
