Encompassing the slopes of the sacred Adam’s Peak and the area surrounding it, the Peak Wilderness is an area of protected tropical montane forest and designated a World Heritage site for its diversity in endemic species and its importance as a watershed for a number of Sri Lanka’s major rivers. With its elevation rising from 1,000 feet to over 6,300 feet, this is very much an adventurer’s paradise, with a number of waterfalls hidden within its densely forested slopes. The Peak Wilderness is also one of the last remaining refuges of the endemic purple-faced leaf monkey.
