About This Journey

A fast-paced holiday packed with 12 adventurous activities of easy to medium difficulty. Through action and adventure, you will explore Sri Lanka’s iconic heritage, national parks, nature reserves, rainforests, and tea gardens.

You will climb the twin rocks in Sigiriya. One, to the site of a royal palace of the past, the other, to enjoy the great views of Sigiriya rock and its surroundings. Hop on a bike to explore the medieval capital Polonnaruwa and trek through the lost monastery of Rajagala, which dates to the 1st century BC, to discover many of the unexcavated ruins.

A jeep safari at Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park will bring you closer to tuskers, sloth bears and birds of Sri Lanka. If luck is on your side, a boat safari in Gal Oya, may see you spotting a herd of elephants swimming between the Islands. That’s right! Elephants do swim!

Explore the diverse topographic features of the Island, with two early morning treks offering breathtaking views of the misty distant plains. Steer your path as you cycle along the lush paddy fields of the countryside and shift gears as you meet challenging paths along tropical rainforests. Catch a train on a scenic route through mountain terrain to the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea country.Enjoy the thrills of whitewater rafting in Kitulgala, and should you wish to push your adrenaline limit further, waterfall canyoning, mountain ziplining, and ATV Quad biking through jungles await you.

    Itinerary

    First Night: Arrival at BIA and Transfer to Negombo
    On arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), you will be greeted by one of our hotel representatives. Thereafter transfer to your seaside hotel located in Negombo to acclimatize to the local weather and get a good night’s rest before the start of your adventure.
    Day 1: Introductions and Evening Cycling in Sigiriya
    At 8:00 AM, there will be a safety briefing and a short run-down of the week’s programme. After receiving your holiday challenge, you will head to Sigiriya with your guide, who will be your driver and local insider during your stay in Sri Lanka. In Sigiriya, you will cycle along the villages, paddy fields, and nature reserves.
    Day 2: Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Jeep Safari in Minneriya
    In the morning head to Sigiriya Rock Fortress for a guided tour of this wonder of the ancient world. After completion of your visit to the Rock Fortress, your guide will hand over a clue for your next optional challenge. After lunch, you will head to either Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park for an evening jeep safari.
    Day 3: Pidurangala and Polonnaruwa Ancient City
    In the morning head to Pidurangala to enjoy a stunning view of Sigiriya Rock Fortress and the distant plains. Thereafter head to Gal Oya for a glamping experience, en route you will explore the medieval capital Polonnaruwa on bikes and enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan buffet in a village setting.
    Day 4: Trek to Rajagala and Boat Safari in Gal Oya
    In the morning travel to Rajagala to explore this historical gem, which is comparable to Abhayagiri and Jetavanarama monasteries in Anuradhapura in terms of scale and importance. You will trek up a mountain through verdant jungle with the help of a member of the indigenous Vedda tribe. You will enjoy a tasty local lunch before heading for an evening boat safari offering a unique wildlife experience. If you’re lucky, you may spot a herd of elephants swimming across islands.
    Day 5: Monkey Mountain and Travel to Ella
    In the morning you have the option to enjoy the campsite with a visit to the farm or head out on a medium to difficult trek to Monkey Mountain, which is located near the camp. Around midday, head to Ella to spend an evening at Ella Adventure Park.
    Day 6: Ella Adventure Park and Travel to Nuwara Eliya
    In the morning enjoy a beautiful sunrise over Ella Gap and thereafter trek up Mini Adam’s Peak, a short half-hour climb to the peak from your hotel. Thereafter head to see the Nine Arch Bridge and back to Ella Adventure Park. At some point you may receive a clue, where you will have to take an unscheduled train ride to your next destination—so be prepared!
    Day 7: Morning Hike at Horton Plains and Whitewater Rafting in Kitulgala
    Early morning head to Horton Plains National Park for a 10 km hike to Baker’s Falls, World’s End, and Mini World’s End viewpoints. In the evening enjoy whitewater rafting in Kitulgala, on a 7 km stretch of the Kelani River, with 7 rapids ranging from class 1 to 3.
    Day 8: Canyoning and Travel to BIA for Night Flight
    In the morning you have the option of biking around Kitulgala or heading for a canyoning experience. In the afternoon drive to BIA departure terminal in time for your night flight. Alternatively, you can stay an extra night in Negombo and take your return flight the next day after a good night’s rest.
