The upcountry railway line was mainly built to transport tea from the estates to the Colombo auction. The tracks of the scenic train ride cuts across tea estates, vegetable fields, villages, waterfalls, tunnels, and on mountain tops.

Daily there are three trains departing from Kandy to Ella and another three from Ella to Kandy. In the booking form under extras, please indicate your preferred direction.

Kandy: Train 1 @ 8:47 AM, Train 2 @ 11:10 AM, Train 3 @ 12:31 PM (departs from Peradeniya station)

Does this cover transportation to the station?

Transportation is not covered. However, you could include this activity under your car & driver booking, where your chauffeur will drop you at the station and drive with your luggage to your destination station.

Are these seats reserved?

Yes. To ensure we get your seats reserved, we need to purchase the tickets when they come on sale, which is 30days before your planned travel date. When submitting your booking request, you would need to send us your passport numbers.

When do I pay for the train tickets?

If you only plan on securing the train tickets through us, you can pay once we send you a confirmation that we have secured your tickets. On receipt of the payment we will send you a reference number that can be shown, on the day, at the train ticket counter to collect your physical tickets. When collecting the ticket, the ticketing agent will need to see your passport.
