Sri Lanka’s highest waterfall, Bambarakanda Falls is 863ft high and lies 5km off the Colombo-Badulla road. Not visible from the main road, a short trek off a minor road along a boulder-strewn stream is required to enjoy this spectacular sight, but is well worth the effort. The head of the falls lies amidst a forest of pine from where it cascades down the vertical cliff face in a single drop spreading at the base giving it its distinct horsetail character.
