South of the capital Colombo, Bentota beach is one of Sri Lanka’s oldest and most popular beach destinations. Although just off the Galle Road, this fine stretch of golden sand is backed by the Bentota River, giving it a secluded and very private atmosphere.

Bentota offers a wide range of accommodation, from run of the mill package resorts, to bespoke boutique style properties and independent guest houses ideally suited for the budget traveller. The Bentota River offers water sports fans the perfect way to get their adrenalin rush with many operators offering water skiing and jet skiing, but for a more sedate experience a boat excursion along the river amongst its mangroves maybe more suitable.
