Located off the town of Mawanella which lies on the main Colombo–Kandy road, Bible Rock is a 1,688-foot granite massif rising steeply from the undulating forested hills. It gets its curious name from the fact that its rectangular shape resembles a large book when seen from Kaduganawa on the Colombo-Kandy road. Bible Rock is a popular destination for adventure seekers and nature lovers, with the winding path to its summit leading through village hamlets, crossing little streams and through densely forested jungle. The climb is assisted by stone steps created where rock faces are steep. At the summit, the flat open plateau offers stunning panoramic views of the surroundings, but caution should be exercised when approaching the edge as strong winds prevail here.
