The drip-ledge cave in Vessagiri, Anuradhapura, is filled with Brahmi Prakrit letters. This is due to having recorded a donation of land by a local temple to the Vessagiri monastery. Brahmi scripts are among the oldest alphabets in the region and are ancestral to the current form of the Sinhala language.
