Your guide for this family educational experience at Abhayagiri monastery will be Nalaka, who is well versed with the intricate details and archaeological findings of Abhayagiriya precinct and will take you through a morning of discovery and experiential learning that will enlighten the whole family. This experience will be conducted in Sinhala and the style of presentation is targeted to help students.
Abhayagiri monastic complex, which is centered around the Abhayagiri vihara, is an extensive monastic complex dating back to the second century BC. Covering an area of over 500 acres, the Abhayagiri precinct preserves the greatest number of ruined buildings in the Anuradhapura period. Within the Abhayagiri complex stood multi-storied buildings with roofs or bronze gilt and baked clay, surrounded by high walls and numerous bathing ponds.
For an additional fee, you have the option of extending this educational experience for another 3 hours from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. During this period you will learn about the following places of interest; – Jantagaraya (gym) – All three Samadhi Buddha statues – Twin ponds – Maha vihara hospital complex
