The Attidiya Bird Sanctuary is a protected area within the hubbub of suburban Colombo, located just south of the city center. Comprising a relatively small area of marshland, dominated by reeds and water lilies, it is habitat to a surprising number of waterfowl and waders. Species that can be sighted here include purple coot, whistling teal, and pheasant-tailed jacana, with the ever-present Brahminy kites patrolling the skies in search of prey to swoop down upon. The area presents the ideal opportunity for bird enthusiasts without the need of lengthy travel.
