Overview

Hikkaduwa, popular for surfing & snorkeling, is one of the country’s most popular beach destinations among young travelers. The beach offers an upbeat environment with plenty of entertainment and nightlife. Pub culture is the norm here and really comes alive in July or August when an annual three-day beach fest is held featuring international DJs pounding out the tracks to keep hundreds of revelers entertained. Its old ties to surfing are not lost, with the sport still popular and many rental outfits providing the necessary gear.
